I am very proud to be the Director of Special Education for the City of Worcester, a city of great diversity and a legacy of caring for children and families. The Worcester Public Schools focus on learning through the TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More) approach has resulted in the development of a multitude of programs within the city to meet the special needs of our students and guarantee them the Least Restrictive Environment.

Today there are approximately 5,000 students in the Worcester Public schools identified as a student with special needs. To meet their needs the district employs over 400 special education teachers and therapists and 350 instructional assistants who are assigned to every school building and education program supported by the Worcester Public Schools. The dedication and hard work of these individuals helps provide our students Equal Access to all the district can provide.

My goal is for the district to provide leading edge and highly effective special educational programs and everyone’s input is vital to this process. It is through the IEP team process and the collective creativity that brings that our students with special needs can be all they can be. Your input and comments concerning our programs is always welcome.

Please feel free to drop me a line with your ideas and success stories.

Respectfully,
Steve Gannon
Director of Special Education
